The Shire covers an area of , and its seat of government is the town of Laverton. ==History== The Mount Margaret Road District was gazetted in 1906. It absorbed the Mount Morgans municipality in 1913, and in 1925 received some land from neighbouring road districts, most notably Lawlers.
